  Circuit mechanisms of sleepiness and cataplexy in narcolepsy

Narcolepsy is a debilitating sleep disorder caused by loss of orexin neurons in the lateral hypothalamus. In Feb, 2017, Sara Pintwala, John Peever published an article in << Current Opinion in Neurobiology >> which title is “Circuit mechanisms of sleepiness and cataplexy in narcolepsy”,research the relationship between orexin system and narcolepsy. The article concluded that loss of orexin destabilizes wake-promoting circuits, inducing profound sleepiness.
