PubMedID- 26217388 Sir charles bell first described a non-traumatic atlantoaxial subluxation in a patient with syphilis, pharyngitis and resultant lethal spinal compression in 1830. subsequently in 1930, the syndrome was named after pierre grisel, who reported two cases of pharyngitis and atlantoaxial subluxation.
